🎯 4 Calibration Methods
Auto-detect based on device database, pick your device model, enter screen diagonal, or use a credit/debit card as reference. Each method shows a confidence indicator so you know how accurate your measurements are.
Convenient online ruler to measure lengths in centimeters (cm), millimeters (mm), inches, and pixels directly on your screen. Use standard physical card calibration for high precision, or start measuring immediately with automatic estimation without downloading any app.

Display rulers on all screen edges — top, bottom, left, right simultaneously. Draggable guide lines, crosshair mode, and rectangle tool to measure width, height, diagonal, and area all at once.
Instantly switch between mm, cm, inches, and pixels using buttons or keyboard shortcuts (1234). Includes inch graduation settings (1/8, 1/16, 1/32) for precise imperial measurements.
Works on Android phones, iPhones, tablets, laptops, and monitors. Responsive and adapts to any screen size. Install as a PWA for offline use — like a native app without downloading.
Click the Calibrate button in the toolbar. Choose the most convenient method: auto-detect, pick your device model, enter your screen's diagonal size in inches, or use a credit card as a size reference. Calibration is saved automatically in your browser.
Activate rulers on one or all screen edges using the toolbar buttons. Place your object against the screen edge and read the measurement directly on the ruler scale.
Use guide lines for precise alignment, crosshair mode for real-time X/Y coordinates, or the rectangle tool to measure width, height, diagonal, and area of objects placed on the screen.
PPI (Pixels Per Inch) defines the exact count of display pixels packed into one physical inch of your screen. Different screens vary drastically — modern smartphones reach over 460 PPI, while desktop computer monitors typically range from 100 to 220 PPI.
Without calibration, a "1 cm" element in your browser is merely an arbitrary software guess. Calibrating your screen establishes an exact 1:1 real-world physical scale.
The mathematical relationships between digital pixels and real-world lengths are:
Example: On a MacBook Pro Retina display (~227 PPI), 1 physical cm requires 227 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 89.37 pixels.
Highly Recommended. Uses a standard bank or ID card (ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1, exact length 85.60 mm). Simply align your physical card against your screen and adjust the slider.
Choose your device from our database of popular smartphones, tablets, laptops, and monitors to automatically apply factory-certified PPI ratings.
Input your physical diagonal display dimension in inches (e.g., 14", 15.6", or 27"). The tool computes exact PPI using the Pythagorean screen formula.
Your browser reads CSS screen resolution and device pixel ratio (DPR) to provide a fast initial baseline when no physical card is available.
Measuring printouts, diagrams, maps, and worksheets for school assignments. Perfect for Math, Physics, and Craft classes.
Checking element sizes, margins, and spacing directly on screen. Ideal for web designers, UI/UX designers, and graphic designers.
Measuring fabric, patterns, and craft materials when no physical ruler is available. Make sure to calibrate first for accurate results.
Measuring items for listings on eBay, Amazon, or other marketplaces. Show buyers the actual size of your products.
Comparing filter sizes, sensor dimensions, and print proportions. Great for photographers who need quick size references.
Measuring materials, components, and parts while working on home projects. No need to find a physical ruler — just open your browser.
Yes, after calibration. Accuracy depends on your calibration method: card match and device picker give the highest consistency, screen diagonal and manual input give medium consistency, while auto-detect is only a starting estimate. The confidence indicator in the toolbar shows your current accuracy level.
Every screen has a different pixel density (PPI). A 100-pixel line might be 5 mm on one screen and 8 mm on another. Calibration determines your screen's exact PPI so we can draw an accurate ruler.
Card match is the most reliable method because you're directly comparing a physical object to its digital representation. If you have a credit card or A4 paper, use that.Device picker is the next best option if your device is in our database.
Yes. Browser zoom changes the effective pixel density, which can throw off measurements. The Online Ruler detects zoom changes and shows a warning banner. If you see the warning, recalibrate for best results.
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your calibration profile, unit preference, and theme setting are stored in localStorage — they never leave your device.
Four standard reference objects are supported:
Yes. The Online Ruler works on phones, tablets, and desktops. It's a responsive tool that adapts to any screen size. You can also install it as a PWA (Progressive Web App) for offline use.
